Get Motivated to Get Fit

It’s no secret that obesity is taking over the country, one body at a time. What does remain a mystery is why people can’t get motivated to get fit. Exercise needs to be a priority. When you don’t exercise or eat healthy foods, you leave yourself open to poor health. Hopefully, with these tips, you can find the motivation to get back into shape.

LEARN ABOUT YOUR FAMILY’S HEALTH HISTORY

Why? If you know your family history consists of certain illnesses and diseases, you may be scared into exercise, especially if you are overweight. Fear can help you become motivated to get fit. Knowing what you’re opening your body up to, may give you a change of heart toward getting in shape.

KNOW THE BENEFITS OF EXERCISE.

Most people like to benefit from something and the benefits of exercise can be a great motivator, especially if you truly know that it will help you ward off any potential diseases. The more you know might just motivate you more than you think.

TAKE A PICTURE OF YOURSELF

It’s true—a picture is worth a thousand words. If you look at the picture and don’t like what you see, then you could become motivated to get fit. Try comparing this current picture with a picture from 10 years ago and look for the differences. Most likely you’ll never get back the body you had at age 17, but you can still get in shape. Every 3-4 months, take a new picture to see if there are any noticeable results. Carrying a picture around can be a great reminder that we need to take care of our bodies in order to live a long and healthy life.

SET GOALS

Make a list of the fitness goals you want to reach. Having goals written down on paper gives you a visual reminder of what you want to attain. Be sure that you set short-term realistic goals. Once you accomplish those, add a few more to the list. Trying to do too much too soon may wear you out more than it will motivate you.

WORKOUT WITH A FRIEND

If the idea of working out by yourself, keeps you from working out at all, then it’s time to find a friend that is willing to exercise with you. This is a great way to stay motivated to get fit If you’re friend is wanting to lose weight as well, try a friendly little competition to see who can reach their goal first. It’s fun and it’s a great way to get much needed support.

REWARD YOURSELF

Getting in shape is hard work, and hard work deserves a reward every now and then. If one of your goals is to shed 5 pounds in a month, and you succeed, treat yourself to something like a new pair of shoes or a new purse. If you don’t want to shop, another way to treat yourself is going out for a nice dinner. Another great reward is to put money into a jar every time you work out. There is no amount too big or too small. At the end of each month, count up how much you’ve earned and go treat yourself to something nice. The possibilities are endless, so have fun with it!

Yoga Tips for Women: Plough

Plough is a moderate to tough stretch that can be easily modified. Works abdominal muscles and stretches lower back.

1. Starting in relaxation pose, on your back, bring your legs straight up towards the sky and then bending at the waist roll them over your head until your toes touch the ground behind your head.

2. Be sure that you look toward the sky keeping you neck in alignment is very important on this pose so that you do not cause injury to yourself. Keep your legs straight and curl your toes.

3. Keep stomach tight and support your lower back with your hands.

Modification: Get a chair to put your feet on instead of the floor.
